For the fourth consecutive year, NetApp and Ducati have continued their strategic collaboration to accelerate innovation in the MotoGP championship. In the 2021 racing season, NetApp once again supported the Ducati Corse division in unlocking the full potential of data for its two riders, Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia.
Building on the success of the 2020 season, NetApp played a key role in supporting Ducati’s strong performance, where five riders secured valuable championship points. That achievement ultimately led Ducati to win the Constructor’s World Championship title.

emphasized that the team’s 2020 success was closely tied to NetApp’s data management capabilities. According to him, the insights derived from NetApp-powered data enabled Ducati to better understand performance variables, strengthen competitiveness, and secure the world constructor title.
“Thanks to NetApp, in 2020, we were able to collect and work with new data under entirely new racing conditions, preparing more innovative and higher-performing bikes. Through data, we gained insights that helped us compete effectively and explore multiple solutions throughout development and testing,” said Dall’Igna.
Echoing this sentiment, Presiden NetApp, Cesar Cernuda, NetApp President César Cernuda highlighted the rapid digital evolution within the automotive industry and expressed pride in being part of Ducati’s journey.

Data Fabric Solutions in Ducati’s HPC Simulations
NetApp has supported Ducati’s digital innovation initiatives across multiple projects, particularly in managing data for High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster simulations used to optimize motorcycle aerodynamics.
The collaboration also extends to motorcycle development and distributed data storage systems that power backend applications such as Ducati Link.
NetApp engineers worked closely with Ducati’s technical team to design a data architecture capable of processing inputs from more than 60 physical sensors installed on each motorcycle. Telemetry data is processed in real time directly at the racetrack, enabling immediate insights during competition.
NetApp HCI enables Ducati to leverage advanced NetApp ONTAP features to enhance data management strategies, including security, snapshot capabilities, and storage optimization.
Through this hybrid cloud infrastructure, the full power of the data center is effectively extended to Ducati’s MotoGP racing team on-site. As a result, data-driven decisions can be made rapidly, supporting race strategies and improving competitive outcomes.
Konstantin Kostenarov, Chief Technology Officer of Ducati Motor Holding, stated that data fabric will play a central role in the company’s future innovations.
“We are leveraging data fabric and fully understand that the future lies in hybrid cloud, especially as we face new challenges with increasingly connected products,” said Kostenarov.
To support storage consolidation and manage more than 200 applications alongside over 300 TB of data, Ducati relies on NetApp AFF solutions. This unified system ensures that all critical data assets remain accessible and optimized.
The Italian manufacturer reported that NetApp’s High-Performance Computing solutions and hybrid cloud data migration initiatives have significantly reduced prototype development time. In addition, these solutions have accelerated the launch of new motorcycle models to market by up to 30%.
